The Tampa Bay Lightning announced they have resigned defenseman Victor Hedman to a five year, $20M deal for an annual salary cap hit of $4M per season. Hedman was picked second in the 2009 NHL entry draft only to John Tavares. Since then, he has led the Lightning defensemen in games played, goals, assists, and points.
Lightning GM, Steve Yzerman spoke about Hedman’s play. He said, “We are extremely pleased to announce that we have agreed to a five-year contract with Victor. He has shown tremendous growth as a player in just more than two seasons in the NHL while also becoming a key member of our team. We look forward to his continued development in a Lightning uniform.”
Hedman himself spoke saying, “I love it in Tampa Bay with the Lightning and I will do all I can to help this organization be successful on and off the ice.”
This is great news for the Tampa Bay Lightning. Hedman is their star defenseman. He can be counted on in any situation including scoring goals, shorthanded, and even the powerplay. Under veteran players of Mattias Ohlund and Eric Brewer, Hedman will continue to grow as a player. Expect him to be one of the top defenseman in the league and win at least one Norris Trophy as the league’s top defenseman.
