In a game versus the Toronto Maple Leafs yesterday, Flyer’s defenseman Chris Pronger left the game with a eye injury. Maple Leafs center Mikhail Grabovski took a shot and the follow through of the stick caught Pronger in the face. He instantly went down to the ice and was rushed off the ice by the help of a referee and a teammate. A video of the incident can be seen below:
In the locker room, Pronger was checked out by the team’s doctor. The Flyers released that Chris had blurred vision for a while after the incident but thankfully, his vision did return to normal. Though the improvement, Pronger has been told to go on bed rest for the next four days and will visit with an eye doctor every day. It is being told that Pronger will be wearing a visor when he returns to the Flyers lineup.
This is a huge loss for the Flyers as they will have to go without their leader and all-star defenseman for at least two weeks. So far the Flyers are 5-2-1 and second in the Atlantic Division. The team will have to rally behind their goaltender, Ilya Bryzgalov, if they want to remain hot without Pronger.
