Another season has begun and the Calgary Flames are finding themselves at the bottom of the Northwest Division. They are only two points out of second place but could slip very easily in a very talented division that features Colorado, Edmonton, and Vancouver. The Flames GM Jay Feaster wants to win and won’t be afraid to make a deal if he feels it will help the team win.
Three big names are being talked about as trade bait. Calgary’s trade pile may include Rene Bourque ($3.33M cap hit), Curtis Glencross ($2.55M cap hit), and Jay Bouwmeester (6.68M cap hit). The only problem is all three have NMC/NTC which could let the individual player block any potential trade.
Rene Bourque and Curtis Glencross could land in New York as a Ranger since the Flames have shown interest in Ryan McDonagh and Erik Christensen. The only logical place Bouwmeester would land because of his large salary is Ottawa, potentially in a deal for the Senator’s captain Daniel Alfredsson. The Senator’s are in the middle of a rebuild, but would they want to trade away their captain who is mentoring the youth? The Flames would have to put together a generous package including high draft picks for that to happen.
If the Flames continue to play poorly and remain in last place in the Northwest Division, look for Jay Feaster to make a move very soon..
