Flyers Sign Bryzgalov and Aren’t Done!

Can Bryzgalov be the missing piece to the Flyers puzzle and win them a Cup?

After revamping the organization by trading away Mike Richards & Jeff Carter, the Flyers wasted no time getting back to business. The Flyers have signed soon to be top unrestricted free agent goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov to a 9 year, $51M contract!

This is only great news for the Flyers. As a perennial contender, the only thing they’ve been lacking is a solid goaltender behind a very potent offense and defense. On paper, they know have all the pieces to the puzzle. Let’s see if they can actually bring the Cup back to the City of Brotherly Love after major changes to their roster all within the last hour.

The Flyers still aren’t done. They have to sign key restricted free agents Wayne Simmond and Ville Leino which are key priorities. They might try to sign another free agent on July 1st to boost their offense because they still have a little more than seven and a half million dollars in cap space. The future is very bright in Philadelphia!

One Response to Flyers Sign Bryzgalov and Aren’t Done!

  1. Chris Ross says:

I thought that the initial trades with getting rid of the Carter and Richards contracts was quite savvy but then I thought they simply took a step back by taking on Bryzgalov for so long. Literally, 2 steps forward 1 step back IMO. It’s going to be interesting to see how their players develop in the next few years and how their team is able to react to this situation. They were supposed to have those guys as cornerstones for a decade and now that’s all down the drain. I guess it’s up to Giroux, Van Riemsdyk and well…Bryzzzy and his fat contract.
