Preseason Impressions

Young and talented Oilers look sharp so far

With the preseason coming to a close and the regular season sneaking up, I thought I would post some of my preseason impressions on the eve of starting my regular season preview.

From the Eastern Conference: Pittsburgh, Tampa Bay, Philadelphia, and Toronto have impressed me.  Pittsburgh and Philadelphia succeeded last year and now seem only to have gotten better.  Tampa and Toronto had a disappointing year but have already looked like a new team.  Toronto has exceptional defense and goaltending with a average offense but if Kessel can net 40, the Maple Leafs will be playoff bound.  Tampa Bay has seemed to gel nicely to new coach Guy Boucher’s system of attacking the net with high traffic.

From the Western Conference: Edmonton, Los Angeles, Anaheim, & Detroit have been impressive.  Detroit and LA have picked right up right where they left off at the end of last season.  Goaltending has been phenomenal and the talented offenses of both have been clicking.  Edmonton’s young talent has really come together and matured, even defeating Vancouver 8-2.  Anaheim has looked strong also with Getzlaf and Ryan leading the offense and Hiller in net.

Feel free to comment your preseason impressions so far.

Look back tomorrow for the start of my Regular Season Preview.  Check out the Preview Index.
